Traci Koen, LPC-S, RPT-S
Traci is a therapist with 17 years of experience working with individuals, couples and families. As the founder of Brightway Counseling & Wellness, Traci is passionate about providing a warm, comfortable, and accepting environment where clients can be open and feel supported throughout the counseling process. When working with Traci, you will explore your life circumstances, choices, relationships and ways in behaving and relating to discover what works for you and what might not serve you any longer. Traci enjoys getting to know each client, being able to discuss difficult topics while also having the comfort to confront and encourage growth.
Traci specializes in working with men and women feeling stuck or overwhelmed with transitions or challenges in life, with their career, in relationships or as parents. Traci also enjoys working with parents and their children to create and foster the change they need for a healthy family environment.
Traci received her undergraduate degree at Texas Tech University where she studied Business and Psychology. While attending graduate school, Traci worked in the health benefit corporate environment where she recruited, managed, and provided services to a large territory of providers in Texas and earned her master’s degree in professional counseling from Amberton University in 2007.
Beginning her counseling career in 2006, Traci worked for a family crisis center in Plano, Texas, where she provided counseling services for all ages and facilitated groups dedicated to improving teen/parent relationships. Additionally, Traci served as a counselor for a local domestic violence outreach center where she worked with victims of domestic abuse, facilitated victims support groups as well as implemented and managed a transitional housing program for domestic abuse victims and families. In 2009, Traci began counseling in a private practice setting and concurrently served as a contract therapist for Frisco Independent School District. The years of experience and opportunity to work with each member of a family and individuals within their family system has afforded Traci the ability to successfully work with individuals of all ages. Traci has been honored to be able to work with many of her clients as children or teens and again as young adults and new parents.
Traci is a professional member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Play Therapy and is accredited as a National Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Traci serves as a board supervisor for the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors and provides counseling supervision to Licensed Counselor Associates pursuing permanent licensure with the state of Texas.
Through personal experience with grief, loss and change, Traci has gained a passion for working with children and adults who are grieving or struggling with loss, change and adjustment in various stages of the lifespan.
Traci understands the complexity of marriage and navigating the ever evolving stages of the relationship. As a parent, she knows first-hand the challenges of parenting in todays time of ever-changing technology, social culture and values.
Traci is a native Texan and grew up attending schools in Plano, Texas. She enjoys reading, playing tennis, cooking, and spending time with family.
Traci is passionate about working with individuals and couples who are motivated to participate in the counseling process and ready to take a closer look at how their past, along with current attitudes and behaviors are impacting their life. Traci encourages each client to have patience and grace for themselves through the process.
