Education

Kathy Prial is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). She earned her master’s degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University.

Kathy is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, (EMDR) which is utilized as an effective therapeutic approach for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other past Traumas that hold people back from functioning in a healthy emotional state. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).Kathy specializes in individual adult, senior, and adolescent therapy, as well as couples therapy.

Experience

Kathy’s formal education, professional experience, and experiential training in counseling have prepared her to counsel adults, seniors, couples, families, and adolescents in both individual and group settings.  She has experience helping clients who struggle with issues related to stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, grief and loss, PTSD, trauma, substance use/abuse; and those working through LGBTQ issues.Kathy also specializes in helping clients through phase of life transitions, including leaving home for the first time; marriage, children, and divorce; changes in employment, retirement, and health; as well as providing guidance on achieving personal and professional goals.

Kathy has gained a wealth of experience through her professional and advocacy work. She served as a caseworker in support of the Dallas areas indigent population, provided substance use and abuse awareness training to students and local businesses, and provided counseling and life skills training to teen moms.  Kathy is a victim advocate for the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center and a workshop facilitator for the American Red Cross – Service to the Armed Forces.

Personal

Kathy is a native New Yorker who has had the opportunity to live in different locations across the country and now calls Dallas home.

In addition, Kathy enjoys her time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in a national and international capacity. She has a passion for helping others and guiding them as they explore the changes they want to make and grow into the person they want to be.
